Overachievers of the Day: An entire class of high school students in China was photographed recently while studying for the Gaokao — China’s National College Entrance Exam with life-and-death implications — while IV drips helpfully delivered “amino acid” concoctions to keep them cramming late into the night.
The photos are making the rounds online, but while the Western world reacts with dismay, Sino Weibo commenter 天高任鸿飞 isn’t fazed: “We all experienced this. We can only blame ourselves for lack of physical exercises.”

Now this is just too much.

Get a giant telephoto lens.
Start zoomed all the way out.
Step back a few feet and zoom in so the object is the same size.
Repeat.
Or it’s witchcraft and we need to set this photographer on fire.

This gif actually demonstrates very well the difference between your point of view, or perspective, and your angle of view.
In this gif both the perspective and angle of view are being manipulated simultaneously.
Really want to have your mind blown?  check this out:

^^^^this photo was taken from a closer perspective than the photo below.

That’s why the gif is so freaky looking.  Because as humans we’re used to looking at things with a fixed angle of view, so when we walk towards an object, what is behind it also appears to get closer (although the farther something is the less it appears to change relative to you). Here the angle of view is being adjusted inversely to the distance - that is the closer the camera moved towards the subject the more the angle of view was widened, so that despite moving closer to the subject it stays the same size in the frame - however this causes the apparent size of everything else in the frame to change dramatically - appearing to get smaller as you actually get closer.
